I am in need of a new business logo and work with several freelancer websites where you can post job posting and let people make offers to what price they can do it for, I thought wow I am on this new site that has a ton of talent, so how could I get someone on this site to do it? So would be a great thing to be able to do post a job posting, then when posting that apply to my type of talent it notifies the talent. Instead of me having to go down the list looking. Any interest in that type of feature?

Mungo, In a couple of the other threads, there has been much discussion of a Craigslist-style job posting area. David F. has mentioned that the feature is in the works.

Although there has been mention of the CraigList type section, has there been any discussion as to whether of not it may soon become a reality?

Stay tuned. We'll have an announcement coming soon and are looking for a few people to privately comment on the initial version which is in testing. Email us if you want to take a look.

This is great news, because I truly need a job after graduation.

Just a suggestion/question for the catagories in the jobs section---can there be a visual arts post? This would cover jobs where people want to hire for example, artists to do a mural or a sculpture or a portrait.

I am really against the idea that the creative talent must "bid" for work. There are several sites on the internet that use this approach and frankly, what those sites have turned out to be are venues for every untrained person to way underbid for the work. The employers in many cases just go with those people who are willing to work for $5 an hour. The experienced professional cannot work for this, nor would they want to. I tried those other sites, never got work from them an eventually pulled out. Last time I visited those sites I realized that while there may be talented people still in High School the sites were certainly no way for an experienced professional to represent themselves. Also they come across as a joke.....a waste of my professional time and energy. I certainly wouldn't pay to be a member of those sites when there is no possibility of making a living. If the Jamuse site is purely for emerging talent, it should say so. But if it wants to be considered the premiere site for the best talent, the place to go for professionals then the "bidding" aspect, in my opinion, just won't take the site to that level.

Suggest that Jamuse is a great site for potential clients to take the time to view the portfolios of those artists whose work that they like as a way a fielding working styles and choosing the artist based on their merit. Then they should contact those artists and select the work of those whose style best represents the image they wish to portray and negotiate directly with that/those artists, hiring the one that they can afford.

I notice that Jamuse has a Job Posting/Wanted area in the forums and I like this set up. Then I can post what kind of work I am looking for and also view potential client postings and take it from there. The client can then view my portfolio in advance of contacting me to see if what I do is what they want, or I can view their job post to see if it is suitable for me. I can then discuss with this potential client my fees and what comes with that fee.

Bonnie,

I couldn't agree more. Those sites do much to devalue the business, and expedite everyone's extinction, in my opinion. I feel strongly that Jamuse should refrain from the bidding approach, as that sends a signal that a site is not a professional venue for the best talent, but generally a place to steal a bargain. Obviously, I'd like to see Jamuse propagate professionalism, as that will filter down to the brands of everyone involved.

ALLAN--

I am in complete agreement. Bidding on projects simply devalues true talent.

MUNGO--

To truly respect the artist, I suggest you decide on the budget for a project and advertise it that way. As a photographer, (If you are that Mungo Studios in NC) you should understand the value of hiring someone based upon talent, not price.

DAVID--

Why is the job section buried in the forums? It is not an intuitive place to have it live. Can it be moved to the home page?

Also, a CL-style job board would be better. Even better would be a form where people looking for talent had a form with ""Project description" and "Budget/Salary" fields. Having the parameters set right up front would help talent pre-qualify each job and would also help keep the talent-seekers from having to weed through over-qualified or under-qualified talent.

words,

The jobs area has a separate entry and it is hidden on purpose while we work with companies to get the job postings ready in preparation for our launch.

I love the comments I've read to keep bidding out of it.
And totally agree that bidding cheapens the value of our talent.

What sets jamuse apart is simply taking the higher road.

It would be nice if the job postings were put into separate categories as well. Meaning one for freelance/contract work and one for full time/part time permanents positions. In my most recent job search it proved increasingly annoying to have to sort through some sites to find which postings were of which type. Also, having search capabilities is huge. AIGA had a really good job search area which broke out many search criteria.

I too am against any type of "bidding" feature - all too often the client goes with whomever is the cheapest as oppoed to what is best or their project. I have worked long and hard to achieve a reputation for quality and customer service and IMO, deserve the financial aspects that go along with putting time and effort into my client's projects. As was stated above, I'd prefer to see the site evolve into a avenue for top-tier professionals as opposed to so many of the other beginner/just-getting-into-the-field sites that aound. (Bonnie's sentiments really hit the nail on the head.)

Just my .02 cents...
