My very first impression was that 'Successful' was spelled incorrectly when I uploaded my first few photographs. Details are important.
Uploading worked fine, except that I accidentally started upload of a 9 meg file but couldn't cancel out. I had to wait quite a while. What if it had been 250 meg? What if I had been on dial up?
And the third immediate impression is that the thumbnail preview area was very nice, but when I went to view one of my panoramas, I could only get it to be about half the size of the page. I work in 1024 wide screen, and the large version of my graphic only went about halfway. That's not good enough for viewing my work, it MUST be full screen or nothing. It's the way I made my thumbnails - 1024 by 96dpi - and it's the way I want it shown.
Now off to see what the rest of the site looks like. :-)
Oh, one minor thing. The upload dialog box does not scroll to the bottom when I am uploading a file, and after the upload I have to scroll to the bottom manually. That's an easy fix for a small annoyance.

I guess I have to say that I don't want anybody to be able to leave comments with my pictures. As I browsed through, I did not see an option to disable that feature? I am a professional, I know what my work is, and I don't need comments on my photographs.

| I like the positive impression of this site. Has a lot of white space and air. The images are uploading little slowly but I think that will be fixed. Overall, it is a great tool. |

I LIKE what this site is trying to achieve regarding its goal of client interaction.
I've finally been able to upload a group of images for my initial portfolio (after a few failed attempts to do so much earlier on). I had un-installed my "flash player" a while ago and found out that it's needed to facilitate the portfolio upload process. Bruce was helpful in pointing this out to me ... thanks Bruce :)
My first thoughts on the upload process had already been posted - uploading one image at a time is a bit too time consuming if more than a handful of images have to be uploaded. If I have to click on each image for upload to show "proofs" to a client, I would be very frazzled by the time I click on the 20th image via the browse and click method. A mass uploader of sorts tailored to showing proofs would be very helpful.
I've deleted several images from my initial portfolio upload because I noticed that they looked fuzzy by comparison to other sites that I've uploaded to. If jamuse automatically resizes the images to fit their presentation formats in the profile section, it would be helpful to know what the exact dimensions are that we should be conforming to for best viewing results (this applies to the thumbnails as well). Although, maybe these sizes are in some section I have yet to read.
I've yet to explore most of the features offered here, and look forward to doing so.

| The site is very clean, organized and the uploading is a breeze (I selected a folder on the desktop, highlighted every file, and uploaded, couldnt be easier). Adding images to the community and the portfolio is a snap. I also love the blog and the forums. Sharing projects is just as easy as shooting an email, I love that feature! I have not found any real flaws personally, just the thumbnails are a little slow to load, but I have a ton of image files in there, and that could be the reason. So far so good to me, just joined yesterday so I need to mess around with it some more and see what I can possibly find that might need fixing. Good work though! Excellent concept! |

| I’ve used the jam file sharing feature during my testing and can’t say enough good things about it. I love the ability to easily share my work with clients in an environment that I know it is safe in. Furthermore, the concept of recording and tracking the approval/comment process is wonderful. |

I love the site, and I believe it is far better than portfolios.com. I was just wondering if it would be possible that when people click on our artwork that it might appear larger on the screen? Personally, I am not afraid of people ripping off my art for most of the files I have uploaded are 72dpi. Let me know your thoughts.

Second impressions...
So I've finally got around to using MuseWorx to test out the collaborative items - and what I find is that while I like the overall layout, the overall experience is a little problematic for me.
1- It's terribly terribly terribly (let me repeat that) terribly slow. Maybe the internet's having a bad day, but I have four files all under 1MB except one that's 1.5MB. I can't expect a client to sit and wait for a project to display for 10-15 minutes. Email is faster.
2- I'm not sure I like the idea of launching a project in a seperate browser window, though I can understand the need for opening multiple projects at one time for some. I'd rather see this in the same window as the overall site and allow browsing projects through a tabbed interface.
3- How to I provide a narrative for the work? I like the notes (though not how they look) idea for specific callouts and the markup tools are wonderful, but I need a descriptive narrative to provide my clients when looking at a concept.
4- Why after several minutes of loading do I get a 'file will be ready soon' when reviewing project images? Is this a function of workload on the jamuse servers?
5- The only place I can attach files to a project from is from my jamuse online assets. Why not from my local folders?
One of the most appealing things about the jamuse site for me is the collaborative possiblities, but I'm concerned about the current mechanics even before I get into things like asking after more robust features. To me the value of the site is as a way to extend my company's ability to collaborate similarly to a portal solution (ie sharepoint) in a per project basis. What if I were extending the creative issues beyond just a concept rendering and constructing a comprehensive proposal for a bid on an RFP? Would I be able to collaborate with my sub-contractors to work up the document? Would they be able to download the documents I need to share/distribute? Would they have to be jamuse users to do any of this? What kinds of files are we limited to here and do there need to be limits on the types of files we share/distribute? Can MuseWorx send email notices? Can we set project milestones/deadlines? etc...
Again, love the premise and the possibilities behind the site. Thanks for the opportunity to critique...

I really like it! I have tried other sites similar to this before but not with so many features. The look and feel are nice. Navigation is abit hard to get - I'm not much for reading directions either. I generally navigate a new site or software from a novice user point of view, this gives me a real perspective of what could be improved later. Then I go back again in a day or so and see if I could find my way through again. I feel it is nessesary because people learn things different ways. Then I go and look at the directions - did they really make sence? Would it be better to read them first - or is it just reference material. I also try to clean up a site - make navigation - make sence. Keep it simple. So far - I found my way around pretty well. Had a couple of hangups when I first created my portfolio. Still need to use the client features, and It would be good to log in as a prospect too so I can see what that is like. Good to help me explain it to them if there are questions. Thanks for inviting me to the site. I really like it - kinda hooked on it actually. I would be happy to investigate further if you need it! -LaDonna |

My second impression and questions ...
1] successfully uploaded a NEF file (Nikon Raw File) via MuseWorx "add file"
however, the original's white balance information somehow got lost in the uploaded version, i.e., the image was shot under incandescent light with correction/compensation for it set in camera during shooting for a proper white balanced capture. The original file expectedly displays a properly white-balanced view in Adobe Photoshop's Camera Raw, Capture One, and of course in Nikon's own Nikon Editor >>> but the uploaded MuseWorx version is a very, very warm (orangey-red) image.
I uploaded this same file again to make sure it wasn't something I missed in the upload process >>> 2nd upload of the same file was again very, very warm like the 1st one uploaded. >>> I can only suspect then that the white-balance info from the original NEF file gets lost or dropped during the upload (???)

2] Next, I wanted to try sharing this very warm NEF file (with myself, just to test the system first) ... I hit the "share this" button to facilitate this ... I typed in a secondary email address I use ... then checked that email's inbox and junk mail sections >>> nada!!! (???) No email in the inbox or junk mail section regarding the file I wanted to share/collaborate on ??? I checked the email again an hour later just in case of a slow delivery >>> again, nada !! (???)

I've been popping in and out over the past month and am highly impressed with the site. Despite the bugs, which are being worked out in a strikingly efficient fashion, I am excited to get my work on here and participate more often. The openness and attentive manner in which problems are discussed and remedied here are refreshing. I hope it remains a core part of this venture once the site officially launches. All the best! :) :::::: |

Hello Thanks for the invite to join. Just for the record, I am going through Jamuse using Firefox v2.0.0.9, osx10.4.9, imacG5 on adsl2+ connection. My immediate reaction after going through the site is "brilliant!" - one site for all - Portfolio plus Project Collaboration & Management. First portion of my trial with Jamuse - Portfolio. My thoughts stated below are based on the process of setting up my folio as well as referencing to other creatives' portfolio to justify my queries. A. Online Portfolio. All the videos guides and Musework is great - Easy to understand, short, sweet and simple. However, as I started to load my images and swfs I began to realise there is possibly a need to include a little bit more vital information to justify Jamuse's designer's idea, like reflection for Portfolio display.... (Honestly, the last thing I need when loading images is to discover they do not load properly so perhaps pointing out upfront on formats and sizes is rather useful) 1st HURDLE - Why are my files not displaying on my Portfolio? After a few repeated questioning with Help Desk, I realised pdf will be jammed but will not display. And displaying swfs are still in the "work in progress" mode. I did find out that the list below are file formats that will definitely be jammed. Quote: "The following file formats have been tested for use with jamuse. msword, midi, bitmap, mpeg, text/plain,pdf, realaudio, gif, quicktime, ms-excel, wav, ico, ms-wmv, ms-powerpoint, jpeg, Ms-video,ai, png, bob, tiff, cmu, cursor, cut, eps, iff, img, mac, miff, msp, pct, pix, psd, raw, shockwave-flash, tga, wmf, wpg, pm." Notice pdf is in the list... however, it will not be displayed on Portfolio.. I have tried tiff and jpgs and they are possibly the safest ones to use for static image. My first learning curve: Jamming allows convenient conversion to diff sizes for viewing, proofing, displaying etc - cannot elaborate in words how handy this is if you only do offsite projects(!), but that does not necessarily mean it will display on your Portfolio. Next, regarding swfs... this is the reply I got with the Help Desk: Quote: "WMV, Ms-video, WAV, Realaudio will display on Portfolio" I guess for readers who has their files in above format you are all set to go, but being more a mac-user that I am :D I look forward to the update when .swfs will be accepted. :) 2nd HURDLE - Portfolio Display - Sharpness of Images being displayed on Portfolio Though jpgs and tiffs are all displayable on Portfolio, I have noticed that some colours with tiffs look rather strange (hues seems to have been changed to websafe colours, my blues became intense vivid blue..), so I have decided ditching tiffs and just having a 300 dpi jpg file. I then resize them to a certain measurement... (see next hurdle) As with all images, once reduced by more than 25% on photoshop, it is up to you to sharpen them. 3rd HURDLE - Portfolio Display - Reflection of each image I like reflections so it's all good, except that in this case I find the reflections which ends abruptly rather distracting on the overall page. I do not know what the "allocated space" is, so had to guess a bit on this. This is what I have tried out: Image 1: File is 340 pixels deep - Full image Image 2: File is 340 pixels deep - I leave 18pixels at the bottom of the image (white space) so I am getting the white border around my image. Conclusion: Reflection on Image 1 (ie full depth) gets cuts off abruptly. Reflection also looks a bit too intense. Reflection cuts through scrollbar. Overall, this possibly takes away what was meant to be a clean looking page. Image also display with a 1x1 pixel on bottom and right before the drop shadow. (Ouch!, picky picky?!!!!) Reflection on Image 2 is subtle (intensity of this one and the one above is quite visibly different) and nice. However, I am not utilising the full space, since I've had to take off in total, approx 35pixels top and bottom to make the image appear centred. 4th HURDLE - Portfolio Files - Repositioning files that I wish to display I understand this issue has been address and is being looked into - I think that's great :) I can just see some creatives tearing their hair out when they want to shift image 50 to be the first image on display - yeah, I have come across some folios with up to 50 images!!!!! well done :) That's if folks for now. :) Thanks for reading - feel free to comment on all the above - let me know if you wish for me to post more findings. Be well jamusing!! |

| I am very pleased with jamuse. It was so easy to make a portfolio, and upload samples. Anything I have noticed has already been noted here and or fixed, otherwise it's great. |

RE: the new homepage tweaks and Find an Expert -- I think the home page images are a much better choice. I also like the blurb "From the leaders who shaped Apple, Microsoft, and Madison Avenue..." It adds weight and credibility, and gives prospective clients an added reason to check out the site. Find an Expert -- I like the search options. I notice it seems to search for people rather than work, so one's profile description is key, here. Will there be another detailed search feature for work samples (other than the generalized "Find" field on the home page)? I think the ability to search for work (portfolio) samples will be of greatest value to prospective clients looking for artists with which to collaborate. It seems like I remember, way back when, "Find an Expert" was to be a knowledge-base feature relating to finding people who have particular expertise in a topic in his or her field. Will this be the ultimate purpose of "Find an Expert" or will it remain mainly as a way to find people based on their profile descriptions? Things are taking shape. Thanks for all the hard work. |

Well, one thing that just came up for me was that I didn't realize something automatically became a project once you make a jam file out of it. I thought that you made a project folder first, put assets in it, then shared/jammed the project.

Further to Allan's new Homepage comments, I wonder if the little logos beneath the phone in the 'welcome to jamuse' main box should actually be buttons/links? My first instinct was to click on them to see where they go! |

Hello to All! Upgrades will be completed this week….thanks for your patience. Bruce is sending out the following message to let our Site Advisory Board members know that our upgrades will be completed this week. Good job Bruce. Soon we will be opening jamuse to the public and that means great opportunity for our Site Advisory Board. In advance of this release we are making final preparations for worldwide activity. jamuse currently counts members from 76 countries. In just the last thirty days members have jammed almost 131,000 files, but we are planning on more than 6.5 million files being shared per month. To stay ahead of demand we are increasing available file space to over 3.5 Petabytes. That means a lot of data storage free to you. In addition, we’ve increased site performance to 100 gigabit of Internet bandwidth, which is completely dedicated to our community. Our goal is for you and your clients to quickly have access to your creative work. With these enhancements we will soon be launching the jamuse Trade and Barter, Jobs Post and For Sale feature. As a site advisory board member you will have the first look. This is an exciting time to be a Site Advisory Board Member. The pending release of the site has open several new opportunities for you that we will be sharing over the next few weeks. |

I'm really impressed with the options the site offers and can't wait to use it with clients. I've tried collaborating with myself just to test it out and can see how this will save me a lot of time in the future. I did upload a bunch of lo-res images for a client to review but when I launched the project, the images were of such poor quality that I couldn't justify sending them the link to review. In the end, I created a multi page PDF to send. It would be great if we could upload a multi-page PDF so that clients could flip through the pages. I don't want clients to have to wait for high-res files to upload, especially if they're not yet ready to commit to working with me. The idea of community is great, but so far work is keeping me too busy to cruise the discussions on a regular basis. |

Despite some hiccups, I am really liking what I see as far as forward thinking community sites go. The site operates quite intuitively and I do like being able to upload to the site and not my own server. I really could see using this for projects and such.

I have a small idea. Since my company is in the game developing business as it where which includes Music composition, Concept art, Digital art, Photography, Film and many other types of creative positions I was dissapointed to find that when setting up an account there was no options for game developing companies to choose from when choosing skills. You have film and T.V, Game development is just as expansive as Film and T.V.
So Perhaps a option for game development or something of the like.

I agree completely with this. I am striving to do work in the concept art and development field for gaming and having that as a searchable field would be great!

| So far, I have to say that I'm impressed with the workflow and design of the site. The collaboration features are very nicely done and so far I haven't seen any of the performance issues I've read about in some of the posts.
I do wonder about image processing on the server side. Images look a bit soft when I compare them to the local copy.
I did have a bit of confusion when I couldn't find myself on the system - I didn't realize I had to complete an extra step to activate my name, and then a separate upload to have portfolio images available ( I thought my public upload would be visible immediately).
The cover flow view in the portfolio is pretty slick, although the slider is difficult to work with and tends to jump around after clicking on it. |
