rangaKmurthy: I would think a little red flag would be appropriate for flagging inappropriate content. as for delete, maybe a trash can or possibly an x with a document icon in the center.

Sure, those would work too! I'm ashamed to admit it, but I clicked on the X twice thinking I was deleting - until I realized that I had reported my own image as "inappropriate content." Let me commend jamuse support for being very speedy in their response!

maybe everyone didn't get this, but you need to click museworx and then the my assets to delete files. one more suggestion, smilies should be javascript or php based if possible, this "img src=---" stuff won't fly.

My first impressions were really positive - and as I have begun to explore the site in greater depth, I'm finding it very intuitive and professional looking. I'm looking forward to becoming a more active part in the community over the next few weeks.

"I am also not so sure that any of the work is 'secure' I can print any member's work to pdf and edit it as I wish, so there is no actual security, unless printing on the site was disabled for members profiles and portfolios."
Like you, I never assume security. That's a stellar idea! Lock down printing/downloading of PDFs!

If an image is on the screen, you can do a screen grab and it is yours. Now, mind you, that is just a 72 dpi image.

True, but someone with the right knowledge and skills can do a lot with a 72 "ppi"(not dpi) image. ;)

At first glance the site really seems to be headed in a direction that I like. It has some really cool features and seems to have a lot of potential to help those in the creative field.

My question to you is how is it marketed? The creative industry is so competitive nowadays that you really have to have an ace in the hole to help you get noticed by the big companys out there.

We've tried to use sites that have some simularities like this before, however, this one really raises the bar a bit more. I really like the apple feature that allows you to scroll through your files.

Question: Is this to be used as a spring board to showcase our work to our clients or potential clients?

More later...

At first it is great! Then I upload images to my profile and portfolio and it's even better! Then I take the advise in the newsletter to redo my profile to make it more appealing and it took me 3 tries before I could see the changes. I finally hit refresh and I saw the changes, but it should be noted somewhere to do that. (of course we just had a few drinks at work here and I'm killing time before I get on the road, but still...)

Nice job and thanks for the newsletter! Do you do your own publishing or who is the ESP? I publish our company's e-newsletter and I'm always trying to make it better. I'd love some tips - oooo, that could be another section - Tips from the Experts!

I think I am somewhat like many of my clients. Hurried and multi-tasking. When I have a chance to review "Jamuse" I only have a few minutes before I'm pulled off to do something else. When I have the opportunity to really look deeper into "Jamues" I will see how it will help me with my value-added service to my clients. Items like client review will be helpful, plus sending a few large size files in an easy manner. There is always someone on the client side that needs considerable "IT" hand holding. The easier the interface, the better for me or employee to help support our clients. That is what I will be looking at when studying "Jamuse".

From what I see, there are many illustrators on board. Does that mean they are glued to their computers and have time to be online? As a photographer I'm not always at my desk. I much prefer to be shooting. When I'm online and visiting a website. I like to be in and out.

I have sent these via E-mail but wanted to post them here as well for all. My thoughts are these:

on the third step of the sign up "how do you want the world to contact you?" I would like to see an E-mail as an option.

Once you have entered your profile information it should be clearer how to then go back and edit it. I could not figure it out without using live help. I would like to be able to organize my work by category ie; we design, Illustration, etc. and if I just missed this option then it should be clearer.

The very cool carousell is misleading if it does not hold all of the work in my portfolio. someone may just pan through the carousell and not realize there is way more work below.

I updated my username from mmurphy to bluedawg yet when I am in the "share files" section it still says "jsMuser mmurphy"

It is fun to use so a big two thumbs up for providing this space!

more to follow :)

I still find it very irritating that you can't click on someone's avatar in the forums to read their portfolio. There are some very interesting people on the board that you would like to find out more about and it seems like an easy fix to be able to click on their avatar and read more about them rather than doing a search to find them.

Can't that be made possible.

Thanks,
Pete

If we are only going to have alimited number of images show up in the carrousell and not have the option to delete the carrousell then I wouldlike to be able to select which images show up there. This way I am sure my best work is front and center :)

Hi There!
In my limited time looking over Jamuse and the features, it is a promising site. I'm especially interested in the prospective of being able to easily send large files to clients. It *must* be user friendly on the client's end. That is most important to me when introducing a new feature.

I would also like to be able to see forum posts/avatars link to the poster's profile.

First impressions:

The application side of this site is excellent. It's easy to use, adaptive and very designer-friendly. Maybe I missed it somewhere, but is there a limit on the types of files that can be uploaded and shared? I uploaded an animated Flash web banner, but can't seem to find a way to view it/ activate it within this site. There are minor glitches with adding a description to portfolio pieces: sometimes hitting tab or the "save" icon will accept the entry typed in, sometimes it doesn't.

I'll have to spend quite a bit more time to give a more complete summary. I have to agree w/ Rebecca P. -- it's pretty typical for message boards to have additional info about a poster w/ their message -- so that would be a simple & effective way to enhance the community experience.

Some nice features as a portfolio and a client review/file sharing site.  But the site feels much more like a Creative Collaboration ASP than it does a community/social network.  I was very excited at first when I heard about jamuse as a "Creative Social Network".  But I was expecting more than just basic blogs - more along the lines of idea mash up areas or collaborative concept swarming tools or even a idea board/wall.

If you really want to create a creative social network than you really need to extend the capabilities beyond the very nice client support and portfolio tools.  Think out of the box and how you might borrow ideas from Facebook, Linked In or MySpace to add dynamic, collaborative co-creation tools and broader sharing of various expressive forms that make up a real social network.

Just  some initial thoughts...

When viewing a piece in my portfolio I really, REALLY don't want to see other peoples work listed below it. It could easily and probably will be mistaken as my own by clients and If not I certainly do not want to advertise other artists to my clients. I would not share my work with others on jamuse until this faeture is reomved - this is how strongly I feel about this.

I tend to agree here with bluedawg about the problem involving seeing other peoples work just below yours when someone clicks on an image. I also don't want people to confuse other's works as my own but more importantly than that...   If they are clicking to see my image I want them to see JUST my image or ones from my portfolio just below it only. This should work for everyone on Jamuse.

I had a lot of issues uploading my portfolio on multiple Macs this Fall, but today 01/01/08 I was able to uploading everything with no issues. I will start off 2008 by using Jamuse for file sharing with my factories for my sportswear collection.

Overall this seems like a good site. I am most interested in sharing files with clients. This seems like a useful tool, but I have not gotten it to work yet. I sent an email to myself as a test and it didn't go through. Error: "451 Greylisted". Not sure what that means. (I just got the email sent to me, not sure the initial problem - however when looking at it, I can only see 1 page. I uploaded a PDF file with multiple pages, but can only see 1)

I don't know how useful this will be for anyone looking for a designer like myself, who knows. It is mostly geared towards creative people, so I'm not sure how useful it would be for an outsider looking for creative talent.

There seems to be a lot of things that would help make the site better. Forgive me if I'm repeating what has already been said.

1. The navigation could be refined. There's a lot to choose from and it becomes overwhelming. The Find an Expert tool is too complex with the listing of categories. This could be better done in pull down menus. In addition, it doesn't seem to be accurate. My profile never came up when I searched for anything that related to me, except my name.

2. There are sections of the site where the sidebar menu does not appear or is replaced by other things. This makes it confusing to the user to know where they are and how to get back. I found myself using the back button a lot and that tends to be tedious. If one can't find where they're going or where they've been easily, they will get frustrated.

3. The home page is confusing. It's difficult to know what the site is all about at first. You can learn more, but only by clicking on the Join button. If one wants to learn more before they're ready to join, it's not intuitive that that's where you'd find it. I think you should be able to click on those four buttons underneath the picture to learn more. Also, it should be stated early on who this site is for and the main purpose. I realize it is there, but it is not clear, in my mind.

4. It seems that there are only a few things this site does, but it is broken down into too many levels, that it becomes difficult to see what's available. From my perspective there are two audiences: creative people & those looking for talent. If someone is coming to the site to find talent, they should be easily directed there. For the creative people, they have options on how they will use the site: they can showcase their talent (including adding a profile, portfolio images, etc.), they can manage files for themselves as well as with their clients, and they can see what other talented people are up to, chat with them, etc. The navigation could be simplified to these things (much like it is on the top). The side bar has so many options that it gets in the way of seeing what is actually there. Also, the showroom is not listed on the top. Why have the navigation setup twice? As I see it, there should be only a few links: Home, About Jamuse, Find an Expert, Manage Your Files and Community. Of course, you need the secondary navigation for signing in, managing your profile, news, etc. The Find an Expert section could incorporate some of the showroom features and should probably have more narrowed down search features. Also, utilizing pull down menus instead of listings will help reduce the amount of space taken up. Instead of the side bar being taken up with repetative information, you can use that for testimonials, featured artists, etc.

5. Overall, the design is clean and nice, however it could be a lot simpler and easier to use.

6. How does one become a featured artist?

7. I have used LinkedIn before and although I'm not sure it does very much for me, I like certain features, like asking people to give testimonials about you, having a more detailed profile, etc. I would like to have an area to leave a comment about each portfolio image I upload, sort of like a case study: what was the project, the challenge, what medium was used, why was it successful, etc. It would be great to get comments from clients as well.

8. What is the "My Colleagues" section all about? It seems I can add anyone to this if I want, is that correct? What is the benefit?

9. What is My Assets? Are these just all the files I have uploaded in the past? The MuseWorx section could also use a little help, as far as figuring out what to do. Also, It is not clear that the files I upload will be kept confidential. If I ask my client to view it online, how do I know other people don't have access to it. I'd like more info about some of this before I actually use it and without knowing, I have to experiment with it. I'd prefer to have a comfort level with it before diving in, signing up and uploading all my files. I don't feel that is present on the site.

Well, here are my comments. I hope it helps.

Good luck. I look forward to using the file sharing tool once I have more of a comfort level with it.

Also, if some people are looking for jobs (which I just found in the discussion section), why not have more info on that:

1. Allow people to add a resume section.
2. Provide sections in the talent search - search for companies, search for individuals, search for freelance, etc.

If we are really trying to get work out of this, the site should be geared more towards the company seeking talent, rather than the creative professionals. The marketing should be directed towards those looking for talent, this will be the tricky part, as I've seen with other creative organizations or websites. It seems easy to recruit the creative people, but not as easy to get businesses to go there.

We are having an issue with our portfolio photos coming up in low resolution. If we put the same photos from assets into a project, then they are fine and come up in high res when you click on them. But, if we edit the assets and mark them to be included in the portfolio then they come up in low-res when you click on the same photos in the profile.

AT first glance the site seemed a little overwhelming to me, however after just a quick look over of the directions I was able to upload a file.. It took me a minute to get used to how to add photos to the "community".

1. I would like to see categories dealing with Photography, I see it with commercials but unless I have missed something I don't see it for photography. Categories like, nature, people, abstract..etc.
