Hi
everybody, it’s great to be a part of this talented community of artists. I
thought that since this is a design site why not ask members to participate in
helping to design the site. I hope that I am not stepping over my bounds by
suggesting this. I thought one simple thing for example would be a Jamuse logo
design contest where as maybe the site could have multiple Jamuse logos rotated
on a monthly or yearly basis or something to that effect. We have a lot of
experienced creative talent here & since we are all sharing the site, why
not contribute to designing it as well. I know for example that Renderosity.com
invites its members to help with the aesthetics of their site & it gets a
fresh face overhaul every so now and often to keep things fresh.
One
suggestion that I have is to maybe use a smaller logo on this website to look
more professional & to use fonts that are a little darker & easier to
read. I thought the logo might look good in Monochromatic or Analogous color
scheme & maybe add some tastefully done custom graphic buttons, instead of
just using plain text to choose a sub-menu option. Another possibility would be
if you would allow the designers & artists to be able to upload their own
custom background for their portfolio, pending administrative approval first of
course. Oh and maybe adding some hyperlinks in the forums, so that when you
click on that persons name it will take you to there profile. Well that's all I
have for now hope that helps. Overall I love the security settings, very
progressive & smart. I lot of other sites do not have this feature, you'll
get many more willing to join in the near future I'm sure.

Thanks for the suggestions Dennis.
We appreciate the thoughts and our artists review every suggestion. As with all "art", everyone has a view and they do not all agree. This isn't the first try at the logo. I liked the last one better, but better opinions than mine prevailed. You should have seen madison avenues versions...yuk... Unless we were a gas station or a finaincial company.
We are looking for help in better design in areas and recently redesigned the menu system and home page based solely on input from the community. We'll keep this up and will be somewhat directive. For instance, we are releasing several Advisory Board logos this week and will be looking for input.
Contests are coming. We are likely to do these based on something that will benefit a charity or something that is beyond us.
We are working on something now to give the user the option of relaxing some security that is hindering their clients who are not familiar with us. We'll still preach that there are many advantages to locking things down; however, My question is:
What are the main reasons your clients would want the security on their assets?

Is that a rhetorical question? It's to prevent unauthorized
copying. Another sugesstion that I have is to maybe hyperlinks to user's profile in forum as well as being able to see posibly the forum thread below your written response. Hope that helps.

I disagree with the Bkg option. The layout, me thinks, is and will be a critical part of your branding. Buttons and logo aside, I dig the clean look of the site. Further, I think you will endanger yourselves of looking like myspace (a total mess IMHO) when viewing individual pages. :::::: |

| I'd say I agree with Andrew. The clean look is easy on the eyes and very easy to maneuver around. I WOULD suggest maybe enlarging or emphasizing certain features so future users don't have to strain to find what they are looking for on the side panel, considering this might be a fast paced site, patience is not something you can really hope for with Jamuse users. |

The way a site, and a logo is presented is very important and I would have to agree that a clean site is best. Personal customization should be minimized - everything should look similar across the board. I like the logo now but it can be better - I am sure most people would agree that they want thier work to be presented professionaly so it will appeal to clients. Too much on a page will take attention away from the work of the artist. Concepts would be lost - clients would not see past the page it is sitting on. Just as important as usability. |

In reference to rotating the logo, I don't think that it's a good idea in the pure sense. However, I thought this might be a good idea:
What if you developed a permanent type treatment (perhaps through a 'contest') for the 'jamuse' and picked a slogan ('free your creative talent') and a logo each month to reside on the left of the type treatment. Of course, the logo would have to conform to some strict guidelines, such as size in relation to the treatment. But that's what it's all about.
This way, members will have the opportunity to challenge themselves while the diversity of the membership is shown through the adaptations of the logo. I think that the treatment will, in fact, become the logo and browsers will be intrigued by the various adaptations of the imagery and slogan.
Howz that?

Perhaps I have an unorthodox veiw of branding, but here's my take on this. Our brand is our attitude, or rather the attitude of our users. I think a logo switch every month would be excellent for a community of creatives. I'll use a couple examples.
First, I'm part of a community of illustrators and with each category we have Drawing Jams. A topic is given and the community posts their take on the subject. Now, although my participation goes beyond the jams, it's the jams that keep me coming back. They do what we're all about, moving forward, creating new illustrations, pushing ourselves further, observing and learning from others styles and techniques. In this way, we are defining our brand.
Secondly, have a look at the new MTV site. Not only does the logo change, but entire style sheet changes to accomodate new art. While i know they have a more recognizable brand, I think they understand that you can dress differently and people still recognize you. If this was a community for the everyday person, I would agree that a standard logo would be best, but given our audience, I think that rule could bend. Although have a basic structure/for would help (as is the case for MTV) involving the users in this creative process could be an amazing opportunity to connect with them.
Take it or leave it, that's just one guy's opinion.

Concept - changing logo This is a good idea if we keep the branding concept alive - Here is my concept - feel free to comment - bad good - When I think of jaMuse I think of jam, jelly etc.. Why not have a jar of jam that changes colors? I have a project out there to see the concept. Obviously the photo needs to be done and creation of the logo itself (this is just an idea) - I thought it might go along with phrase "have YOU been jammed today?" Take a look - http://www.jamuse.com//collaborate/swf/NoteTracker.html?userId=2580&projectId=1930 -click on the images on the left nav to see the color changes in the image. (for some reason the scroll arrows are not working.) -LaDonna |
