| I've noticed when I use the "find the expert" feature that when I punch in a state, city. and job, that my profile doesn't come up. My profile only comes up when I punch in my name into the equation. I believe that's a problem, since many people don't know my name. Can anybody help?

The same is happening to me...I tried to do a general search, but my profile didn't come up.

I'm also curious about this feature. I did a search for an illustrator in Washington DC with zero results.
I'd love to be on that list.
I'm sure they are working on it.

| as far as I can tell, which disappoints me, this is an incomplete feature. Here are some thoughts: in order to have such a list, you'd need to have a section in each members profile where they would select fields or areas in which they are an expert, certified or not, though I'm sure that many are certified in several applications or areas as I am, or you would need some other way in which to compile a list of 'experts'. the other issue that comes into play is that not everyone is an expert, and not everyone who thinks that they are is, also there are variations in opinion on what makes one an expert if the person in question is not certified. I think it is a feature that should be excluded. I really don't see a need for it, I'm a designer, I know tons of illustrators and photographers and such, if I need someone in the expertise, it is likely that I know one, for those who do not know such people, they would isimply post on the forum something like "I am looking for a fully professional, experienced photographer in Houston, Texas" for example. |

How do you become an expert, then?
In addition, I noticed that when I'm browsing through the experts and narrow down my search by county, that there are 3 option for USA, United States and united states. So, it seems that we have some control over the categories used.
I'm not sure I like the list, I'd rather have a pull down menu or an advanced search function on the side bar instead of a huge list of options to choose from.
Anyway, I have not found myself in the listing of experts anywhere yet, not sure why. I even tried logging out, but that doesn't seem to effect it. |

Also check your museworx, we just went live with a new portfolio manager also. Now you can reorder your images and display in your slide show.

From what I have noticed, if you use a keyword that appears in your bio, you will come up as an expert. Same with the city and state. It appears to be a search based solely on a user's bio and location. There may be benefit to such a search feature among some potential clients, but, in my view, a targeted search based on keywords used in a user's work samples would be of more benefit. Clients are pressed for time, so I suspect a top priority for them is to find samples that are in the same vein as their targeted need. Once found, they will look for the artist behind the work.

| hmm, it works somewhat, though entering a keyword didn't work, but I also had to not enter a city to get any results at all, it would be nice to know if the person is from my city. I didn't come up, I entered no key words, just a country and state. odd. anyway, everyone watch my portfolio, there's nothing really good there now, but monday I'll be uploading and editing it all day. :D |

There seems to still be a problem with the search. I entered "portrait" in the keyword field (a word in my bio) and my city, and my listing came up. I went back and entered the same, plus I checked a box next to any of the categories listed in my profile, and received no results.
Without a keyword, the determining factor for a result was also still the category. Checked -- no result. Unchecked -- result.

Without any keywords, I searched for an expert in the catagories- illustrator, fine art & painter. I got over 900 hits with photographers, web designers & graphic designers included... It seems people are choosing catagories beyond their fields to increase their chances of being seen.

This guy, while experienced in his field, should Not come up in a search for painters...
Also the sub catagories need to be defined better...styles would help - realism, cartoon, photoshop...etc.

| The "graphic designer" category seems to have reverted back to the old-school and too vague "graphic artist" heading, which was pretty soundly rejected by those of us in that field. Not sure why as it had been changed to graphic designer back in December...

| have been getting very little page since the beginning...and I've been a member since 10/07....I also just notice that my profile doesn't come up at all in the find expert....not by category, city, state, keyword....any ideas? Also, the sign out link doesn't really signs me out. |

| Looks like we still have the graphic artist category going... I commented on this about 2 weeks ago (see post from 1/8/08) and received no response. It was my impression that back in December many fellow graphic designers objected pretty vehemently to this terminology as outdated and vague. Has something changed or has this reverted back by mistake? |

| I agree, the graphic artist term seems too broad or refers to the production end of things, I'm not offended, but as professionals, we should be able to present ourselves in a way that gives the audience some inclination of what we do, it's the same thing as calling a person an artist, there are musicians that are artists, and there are fine artists, some might think that the developers at microsoft are artists(only if they are on crack. :P ), the point is that it should be more specific. |

Find an Expert is still includes far too many out of field profiles; photographers, graphic designers & profiles with nothing more than a name were included in a search for painters. Perhaps if the range of talents were numbered in order of most frequently used or primary specialties, the search would be more effective.
EX. My capabilities stretch from realistic drawing & painting through to creating web design...& it is truly a Stretch to include myself in web design catagory, technically it is a tertiary skill that would let the client know that I could upload images I create to the internet... My profile should Not come up under web design.
In addition, new profiles without any information should not come up in a search until the profile has a modicum of visual information. If we expect future clients to peruse this site to find creative solutions, we should not waste their time by presenting blanks on the first through fifth page of a search.
I found my profile on page five searching my primary skill After numerous blank & non painting profiles...

I've commented on this so many times now I was tempted to just ignore it for good but decided to give it one more shot. It seems like we've reverted back to the term "graphic artist" yet again... this is probably at least the 5th or 6th time I've commented on it along with others. It'll say "graphic designer" for awhile (which many others besides me agreed was preferable) and after a few days it's back to the old-school and vague "graphic artist" again. Hate to sound snarky and not trying to stir things up here, but this combined with the continued lack of presence for designers' work on the home page makes it feel like we just don't get the love here like the photogs and illustrators. JMHO but you caught me before my morning cup of coffee...  |

We noticed that too...it was a function of multiple web servers and the files for the title of the categories not being updated...so you may see it correctly one day and then changed the next. In any case, it fixed forever this time! :-)

| On Jamuse home page, when I simply type in "Minnesota Photographer" >find, it takes me to the next page showing "Top file results" (total 75) with four avatars showing. Clicked on "more files" nothing happens, when I clicked on one the four avatars, wasn't a MN Photog - what gives?
Will potential clients, when they can use this site / feature know the only way to find a MN Photog is to Look under Community >find an expert>then physically click on and manually select country, region, and check category to get to a page with results? |

try just the word minnesota or something more unique. Seems to work quite well. If you want to make sure you really get states only, then Find an Expert is the right choice. The search here is very advanced and poswerful, yet we've worked to make it simple.

| Thanks for your reply but you missed my question / point. I'm asking from a potential clients point of view - that if they come to the site looking for a photographer in Minnesota and simply use the first thing they see, which is the search box on the home page - it won't get them to me - at all. This must pull up key words from other things, not from what it should. All other sites that offers listings, etc. to photographers, artists, etc. work this way. Just asking why Jamuse doesn't. |
