| Had anyone had any experience with the new (in beta test) US online copyright submission process? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. |

I checked it out online, (http://www.copyright.gov/eco/beta-request.html) it makes you register with your data, and then... you are supposed to be notified if they chose you to be one of the beta testers., so far nothing has happened for me. Has anyone had better luck? also see: (http://www.copyright.gov/eco/update/index.html) |

here is the scoop: I signed up and after a week they sent me this email, (I am copying an email from the copyright office!!!!!!!!!!!) I will try it and post my results soon!
Your new user account with the electronic Copyright Office (eCO) system
has been activated, and you may now register claims online. Please read
the entire contents of this email carefully before proceeding.
Organization
Accounts: If you represent an organization, you may now create an
organization account in eCO (After logging into the system, look in the
right side navigation bar of the Welcome page under Copyright Services
and click on the Organization/DA link). To link an existing deposit
account or accounts to an eCO organization account, please submit a
request to depositaccts@loc.gov
with the new organization account name and the corresponding deposit
account number(s). Please note that your new organization account name
cannot be exactly the same as your existing deposit account name.
Registering a claim via eCO is a 3-step process in the following order:
1)
APPLICATION: Create an application via a series of screens that ask
users to provide information about the claim, including the type of
work, title, author, claimant and publication information. If you plan
to file additional claims in the future, you may save an application as
a template that captures basic information such as your name, address,
telephone number, etc. Using an application template will speed up the
process the next time you file a claim.
2) PAYMENT: Payment of the fee is made online by credit card or electronic check. These payments are processed by pay.gov,
the US Treasury’s secure online payment system. Users who have a
deposit account with the Copyright Office may charge the fee to their
account in eCO.
3) SUBMIT DEPOSITS: For works that qualify,
users may submit a copy of the work being registered electronically by
file upload in eCO. If you are sending hardcopy deposits, you will be
directed by eCO to print out and attach a shipping slip to each deposit
copy or set of copies. The printout enables the Office to link the
deposit to the electronic application.
To register a claim:
· Go to http://www.copyright.gov/eco/tips.pdf and bookmark or print out a copy of eCO Tips to use as a reference for submitting claims in eCO.
· Go to https://eco.copyright.gov/eService_enu/ and logon to eCO with your User ID and password.
·
Read the information on the Welcome screen and then click the 'Register
a New Claim' link under Copyright Services on the right side of the
page.
Please note that instructional text is provided in each
section of the registration to help you navigate through the system.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE INFORMATION PROVIDED ON EACH SCREEN AS YOU GO
ALONG. Help text with more detailed information is also available on
most screens.
If you have a question related to copyright
registration or experience difficulty navigating through the system,
please contact the appropriate Copyright Office unit listed below.

If
you encounter system difficulties, contact the Copyright Office
Technology Office at 202-707-3002. Be sure to identify yourself as a
Beta Test participant in all communications.
We appreciate your
cooperation and assistance in this important effort, and we welcome
your feedback. Please feel free to email us at ecobeta@loc.gov with any comments or suggestions.
